Barton Springs Pool

The pool is open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week, with reduced hours during the winter months for private swims only.

Barton Springs Pool has a long and storied history. It was originally called the “Great Divide” by Native Americans, who made it their spiritual home for centuries. In 1837, Edward Burleson purchased the land with money from his military pension. He named it Barton Springs after his family’s homestead in North Carolina.

The City of Austin purchased the land in 1918 and opened it to the public as a free-swimming park in 1920. Since then, Barton Springs Pool has become one of Austin’s most beloved attractions.
